What is the price of the best real estate view?
As a New Jersey real estate agent I see a continued demand for houses with a view. Princeton houses with a view of Lake Carnegie are in demand even in the soft real estate market. Older homes are bought for $2,000,000+, demolished and replaced with new ones. Not inexpensive, these prices pale in comparison to Manhattan, which is only an hour away. An article "Great Views: Priceless" describes the state of real estate at 15 Central Park West. According to the article, one resident of the new building, "a founder and senior managing director of Paramount Asset Management in New York, has said to have been offered 85 million for his 5,870 square-foot duplex. When asked to confirm this, Dr. Rosenwald said he had actually received five or six calls from brokers offering as much as 100 million for his apartment. He said he had turned the offers down". The disparity between Manhattan prices and the rest of the country is not something new, but the extent of it could be more then ever before. I did some floors in Washington, DC in a condominium High rise right on the bank of the Potomac right to the Watergate Condos. The contractor told me they start at 1 million and go up from there. They do have one efficiency for 500,000. Seems like a lot of money to live on the flight path for Reagan National Airport.
